About Me
My name is Christine Haigh and I have been dressmaking since I was 10 years old.
I had a dancewear business in my hometown in which I produced made to measure
children’s dance costumes for five years. I have also made bridal wear.
I am an enthusiastic Morris Minor owner and, with my husband Keith, attend many
rallies throughout the country. We also attend air shows and various other
events which include 1940s weekends. Sometimes these events are attended
by people in period costumes. Out of this my interest grew for the very
distinctive look of the forties and when I was recently made redundant from my
position as an Admin Officer decided it was time for a new direction.
While
attending the forties events I looked at the stalls which were selling vintage
clothing and soon realised that the majority of the garments on offer were in
small sizes. The national average dress size is a 16 and with most of the
available garments in size 14 and smaller (including the stalls selling new
retro styles) I soon realised there was a niche in the market I could fill and
so “Forties Fashions” was born!
Mission Statement
My aim is to provide off the peg ladies clothing in realistic modern sizes and easy care fabrics at affordable prices whilst maintaining a high quality standard.
